FAQ

What are the legal tint limits in Colorado?
Colorado law requires front side windows to allow at least 27% VLT (Visible Light Transmission). Rear side windows and the back window can be any darkness, including 5% limo tint, as long as your vehicle has dual side mirrors installed. Your windshield may only have a non-reflective tint strip along the top four inches. Colorado does not recognize medical exemptions for darker tint. Illegal tint is a Class B traffic infraction with fines of $500 to $5,000.
My windows look hazy after tinting. Is that normal?
Yes, completely normal. Haziness comes from moisture trapped between the glass and the film during installation. We squeegee out as much water as possible, but some always remains. Do not poke or pierce any bubbles. Park in the sun and the heat will evaporate the moisture naturally. Drying time is typically 30 to 60 days depending on the film type. Supreme Films ceramic options can take slightly longer due to their higher heat rejection properties.
Does window tint go on the inside or outside of the glass?
The film is applied to the inside surface of the glass. In some cases, particularly curved rear windows, we heat-shrink the film to the outside first to form it exactly to the glass shape, then install it inside. This is a precision step that separates a professional installation from a DIY result and from shops that cut corners.
Can I roll down my windows right after getting tinted?
No. Wait at least three to four days in warm weather (70 degrees or above) before rolling down your windows. In cooler weather, allow four to five days. Rolling down windows too soon pulls on the film edge before the adhesive has fully bonded and may cause lifting or peeling.
Can I wash my car right after tinting?
Yes. Because the film is on the inside, you can wash the exterior immediately. However, avoid applying any pressure or wiping the inside of the windows for at least 30 days while the film cures. After the cure period, use only a soft microfiber cloth on the interior glass.
How long does a window tint installation take?
A standard full-vehicle tint on a passenger car takes two to three hours. Larger SUVs and trucks may take up to four hours. Supreme Films Arctic Cool dual-layer ceramic films require extra precision during install and may take a full day. We give you a realistic time estimate when you schedule your appointment.
What should I use to clean tinted windows?
Wait at least two weeks before cleaning the inside of the windows after installation. Use only ammonia-free, tint-safe cleaners or plain soapy water with a soft microfiber cloth. Never use Windex, bleach, vinegar, or any ammonia-based product. Ammonia breaks down the film’s adhesive and dye layers and is the most common cause of premature failure.
Why do some cars have purple or bubbling tint?
Purple tint is almost always cheap dye-based film that has broken down from UV exposure. Bubbling indicates adhesive failure, typically caused by ammonia cleaners or a low-quality initial installation. Supreme Films window tint products carry manufacturer warranties against fading, bubbling, peeling, and delamination. Every installation at Extreme Autoworks is backed by our lifetime workmanship warranty.
What is the difference between carbon and ceramic window tint?
Carbon tint uses carbon particles to absorb solar energy and block heat. It has a matte appearance and performs well, but its heat rejection tops out around 40 to 50 percent. Ceramic tint uses nano-ceramic particles to reflect infrared heat rather than absorb it, achieving up to 96% IR rejection with Supreme Films Platinum Nano Ceramic, all without darkening the glass further. Ceramic is also cleaner optically, with no signal interference, making it the preferred choice for windshields and front windows.
Will window tint interfere with GPS, phone signal, or radar detectors?
No. Supreme Films tint products are non-metallic and do not interfere with GPS, cellular signals, radar detectors, or electronic toll transponders. Some metallic films from other manufacturers can cause signal interference, which is one of the reasons we work exclusively with non-metallic Supreme Films carbon and ceramic products.
What is paint protection film and how does it work?
Paint protection film, also called a clear bra or PPF, is a multi-layer polyurethane film applied to your vehicle’s painted surfaces. It physically absorbs the impact of rock chips, gravel, road debris, and minor abrasions before they can reach your factory paint. An energy-absorbing layer within the film softens impacts. The topcoat layer has self-healing properties: light surface scratches disappear with exposure to heat from the sun or warm water.
What PPF options does Extreme Autoworks carry?
We install four Supreme Films PPF options. Gloss Slick-Silver is our entry-level self-healing film with 60% hydrophobic performance. Gloss Ultra-Slick is our most popular gloss film with advanced self-healing and 90% hydrophobic performance. Matte Ultra-Slick is for factory matte finishes or customers wanting a matte conversion. Onyx Ultra-Slick is a mirror-gloss black non-transparent film used for chrome delete, two-tone builds, and stealth aesthetics. We walk you through all options at your consultation.
What coverage packages do you offer?
We offer seven coverage tiers. Basic covers a front hood strip only. Standard adds fender edges and front door cups. Deluxe adds headlights and all four door cups. Extreme adds the full one-piece bumper. Silver Extreme gives you a full seamless hood, half fenders, full bumper, mirrors, headlights, fog lights, and door cups. Gold Extreme upgrades to full fenders. Platinum Extreme covers the entire vehicle. Custom coverage for motorcycles and specialty applications is also available.
How long will paint protection film last?
Supreme Films PPF is engineered to last the lifetime of the vehicle with proper care. Most installations hold up beautifully for seven to ten or more years. Factors that affect longevity include highway driving frequency, whether the vehicle is garaged, and how the film is maintained. We include a complete care guide with every installation.
How do I maintain paint protection film?
Keep the film clean. Wash your vehicle about once a month and use only PPF-safe cleaning products. Never wax over paint protection film as wax causes hazing and discoloration over time. Remove bug splatter and bird droppings promptly since acidic contamination can etch the film if left sitting. We provide a specific product and care guide at every PPF installation.
Why do some clear bras turn yellow over time?
Yellowing is almost always caused by low-quality film with insufficient UV stabilization in the topcoat. It can also result from improper maintenance, particularly waxing. Supreme Films PPF uses a UV-resistant topcoat engineered for long-term optical clarity. Our manufacturer warranties cover discoloration for the warranty term of your chosen film, and our lifetime workmanship warranty covers the installation itself.
Can you install PPF on a motorcycle?
Yes. We have installed paint protection film on many motorcycles. Motorcycle PPF is a fully custom project since no pre-cut templates exist for most bikes. Please bring the motorcycle in so we can assess the surface area, discuss coverage options, and provide an accurate quote. Turnaround time depends on the total coverage scope and complexity of the bike.
Should I get PPF, ceramic coating, or both?
They serve different purposes and work best together. PPF is physical armor against rock chips, road impacts, and abrasion. Ceramic coating is a chemical bonding layer that repels water, resists UV oxidation, and makes the surface far easier to clean. Applying ceramic coating over PPF gives you both impact resistance and the hydrophobic performance of ceramic. Many customers choose PPF on high-impact zones like the front bumper, hood, fenders, and mirrors, and ceramic coating over the full vehicle. This combination gives maximum protection at a better value than full-body PPF alone.
Will PPF affect my vehicle's resale value?
Positively. PPF preserves factory paint in the condition it was on installation day. Vehicles with well-maintained original factory paint consistently command higher resale prices than those with repainted panels or visible rock chip damage. Many buyers in the used car market will pay a premium for documented PPF coverage, especially on luxury and exotic vehicles where paint perfection matters most.
How long does a PPF installation take?
Our Basic package takes approximately one to two hours. Mid-tier packages from Standard through Extreme typically take a full day. Silver Extreme and Gold Extreme packages generally require one to two days. Full vehicle coverage can take one to two weeks depending on vehicle complexity. All PPF work is scheduled by appointment so your vehicle gets dedicated installer attention from start to finish.
What is ceramic coating?
Ceramic coating is a liquid polymer applied to your vehicle’s exterior surfaces that chemically bonds with the factory clear coat to form a durable, transparent protective layer. Once cured, it creates a surface harder than the original clear coat that is highly hydrophobic, UV-resistant, and significantly easier to clean. Unlike wax, which sits on top of the paint and washes off, ceramic coating forms a permanent chemical bond and does not require periodic reapplication.
How long does ceramic coating last?
Depending on the product tier and number of layers applied, ceramic coatings at Extreme Autoworks last between two and seven or more years under normal driving conditions. Single-layer entry coatings provide one to two years of protection. Multi-layer professional packages last five years or longer. Proper care, including pH-neutral car washes and avoiding automated brush car washes, significantly extends coating life.
What does 9H hardness mean?
9H refers to the cured hardness of the coating on the pencil hardness scale, where 10H is the hardness of diamond. A 9H ceramic coating is harder than the factory clear coat on most production vehicles, providing meaningful resistance to fine scratches, swirl marks, and surface marring that would otherwise accumulate on unprotected paint during normal washing and driving.
Is ceramic coating better than wax?
Yes, in every measurable dimension for long-term protection. Wax is a topical sealant that lasts weeks to a few months before washing off. Ceramic coating bonds chemically to the clear coat and lasts years. Ceramic delivers stronger UV protection, better hydrophobic performance, higher scratch resistance, and significantly less maintenance than wax. The upfront cost is higher, but the long-term value is not comparable.
Do I need paint correction before ceramic coating?
In most cases, yes. Ceramic coating bonds to and seals whatever surface is underneath it. If scratches, swirl marks, water spots, or oxidation are present before coating, they will be permanently locked in. We perform a free paint condition evaluation at our Lakewood shop. When paint correction is needed, we handle it in-house before any coating is applied.
Can ceramic coating go on PPF, vinyl wrap, or glass?
Yes, and it is recommended on all of these surfaces. Ceramic over paint protection film enhances the hydrophobic properties of the PPF and makes it easier to keep clean. On glass, ceramic causes water to bead and sheet off dramatically, improving rain visibility. On vinyl wraps, it provides UV protection and surface hardness. We apply ceramic coating to paint, glass, wheels, plastic trim, and PPF.
When is the best time to get ceramic coating installed?
When the vehicle is new and the paint is in factory condition, before any surface contamination or micro-scratches accumulate. However, ceramic coating can be applied to any vehicle in good paint condition after proper decontamination and, if necessary, paint correction. Come in for a free paint evaluation and we will give you an honest assessment of exactly what your specific vehicle needs.
What is spray undercoating?
Spray undercoating is a wax-based protective coating applied to the undercarriage of your vehicle. It seals metal surfaces against moisture, road salt, magnesium chloride, gravel abrasion, and the freeze-thaw cycles that accelerate rust on Colorado vehicles. Most manufacturers apply little to no undercarriage protection, leaving the most vulnerable part of your vehicle exposed from day one.
Why is undercoating especially important in Colorado?
Colorado uses magnesium chloride (mag chloride) as its primary winter road treatment. Mag chloride is more corrosive than traditional rock salt and clings to undercarriage metal far longer. Combined with Denver’s frequent freeze-thaw cycles and the abrasive gravel on mountain roads and I-70, Colorado vehicles face significantly more undercarriage corrosion risk than vehicles in most other regions. Undercoating is one of the highest-ROI investments you can make for long-term vehicle longevity here.
Can you undercoat a vehicle that already shows rust?
Yes. In most cases we can treat rust-affected areas with a rust inhibitor and apply undercoating over the treated surface to stop further progression. Whether your vehicle is five or fifty years old, we have a process for it. Stop by the shop for a free undercarriage evaluation and we will walk you through exactly what we find and what we recommend.
What is the difference between wax-based and rubberized undercoating?
Wax-based undercoating, which is what we use at Extreme Autoworks, penetrates into seams and cavities to displace moisture and prevent corrosion without becoming brittle in cold weather or running at high temperatures. Our formula contains no tar-like ingredients that attack body coatings. Rubberized undercoating is a thicker product that primarily acts as a sound dampener but can trap moisture if applied over existing rust, which can accelerate corrosion underneath the coating.
Does undercoating reduce road noise?
Yes. Wax-based undercoating has the secondary benefit of deadening road noise that travels through the floorpan into the cabin. For trucks and SUVs in particular, undercoating can noticeably quiet the ride on rough roads and highway surfaces. We also offer dedicated sound dampening application for customers who specifically want to prioritize cabin noise reduction.
How long does undercoating last, and does it need to be reapplied?
Professional wax-based undercoating typically lasts two to three years under normal Colorado driving conditions before reapplication is recommended. Heavy winter use, frequent gravel road driving, and off-road use will reduce longevity. We recommend an annual undercarriage inspection and reapplication every two to three years to maintain continuous protection.
Can I undercoat a new vehicle before it has ever been exposed to winter roads?
Yes, and that is the ideal timing. Applying undercoating to a new vehicle before its first winter season means we are sealing a factory-clean undercarriage with zero rust or contamination present. The coating bonds directly to bare metal for maximum adhesion and longevity. We work with new vehicle owners regularly and can often schedule same-week service.
What does interior protection cover?
Interior protection at Extreme Autoworks uses Sonax Leather and Vinyl Protectant on hard surfaces and seating, and Sonax Fabric Protectant on carpet and cloth upholstery. Every treatable interior surface benefits: seating surfaces, dashboard, door panels, headliner, carpet, and cargo areas. Both products create a protective barrier against UV damage, staining, and the cracking and fading that Colorado’s high-altitude sun and low humidity accelerate.
Why is interior protection especially important in Colorado?
Colorado’s high altitude means UV radiation is significantly more intense than at sea level. Combined with the state’s consistently low humidity, leather and vinyl surfaces dry, crack, and fade faster here than in almost any other region of the country. Factory leather that looks perfect in a showroom can develop cracking and discoloration within two to three years without protection in Colorado’s climate.
How long does interior protection last?
Sonax products are rated between one and five years depending on surface type, UV exposure, and usage intensity. High-traffic surfaces like the driver’s seat and the top of the dashboard will need reapplication sooner than lower-use areas. We recommend an annual inspection and reapplication to maintain continuous coverage, particularly on leather surfaces that face direct sun load on the driver’s side.
When is the best time to apply interior protection?
When the vehicle is new, before any UV exposure or staining has occurred. Factory-fresh leather and fabric accept the protectant most evenly and achieve the best bond. Interior protection can also be applied to any vehicle in good condition. If your interior has existing staining or surface damage, we can assess it first and advise whether cleaning or conditioning is needed before treatment.
Does fabric protectant make spills completely waterproof?
No protectant makes fabric fully waterproof, but Sonax Fabric Protectant coats the surface fibers so liquids bead on top rather than absorbing immediately. This gives you time to blot and clean the spill before it reaches the fabric substrate and becomes a stain. It makes routine cleanup significantly more effective and prevents most common spills from becoming permanent.
Can interior protection be applied to aftermarket leather or custom upholstery?
Yes. Sonax Leather and Vinyl Protectant works well on OEM leather, synthetic leather, and most aftermarket upholstery materials. If your vehicle has custom interior work or Alcantara, let us know the specific materials and we will confirm compatibility before application. Alcantara and similar microfiber materials require a slightly modified approach that we handle routinely.
Will filing a hail damage claim raise my insurance rates?
No. Hail damage is classified as a comprehensive claim, not a collision claim, which means it is treated as an act of God rather than an at-fault incident. Comprehensive claims do not increase your insurance premium. You are responsible for your deductible, and then your insurance covers the remainder of the approved repair cost.
Do I have to use the shop my insurance company recommends?
No. As the policyholder, the choice of repair shop is legally yours. Insurance companies often have preferred shop networks, and shops within those networks may have contractual obligations that can limit their ability to advocate fully for your repair. You are free to choose an independent specialist like Extreme Autoworks, and we work directly with adjusters and claim handlers on your behalf.
How long do I have to get hail damage repaired?
Insurance checks are typically valid for 180 days from issuance. However, there is a more urgent reason not to wait: unrepaired damage creates a restriction on your policy, meaning future damage claims in the same areas can be denied until existing damage is repaired. Repair costs are also based on current labor and parts rates, which rise over time. We recommend scheduling your repair as soon as possible after a storm.
What is Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) and how does it work?
Paintless Dent Repair is a non-invasive technique for removing dents by gently massaging the metal back to its original shape from the underside of the panel, with no sanding, filler, or repainting. A technician accesses the backside of the dented panel by removing interior trim or through window openings, then uses specialized tools to push the metal back into position. PDR is the preferred method whenever the paint surface is intact and the dent is accessible.
Does Paintless Dent Repair preserve my factory paint?
Yes. That is PDR’s primary advantage over traditional body shop repair. Because no sanding, filler, or repainting is involved, your original factory OEM paint remains completely untouched. This matters for resale value, manufacturer warranty preservation, and avoiding the paint texture differences and blending that often come with repainted panels.
What if my hail damage is too severe for PDR?
When dents are extremely deep, the paint has cracked, or a panel is structurally compromised, PDR may not be sufficient on its own. In those cases we follow the same process insurers use: PDR first, repair if PDR is insufficient, panel replacement as a last resort. We give you an honest assessment of every panel at your free inspection and work directly with your adjuster to document the damage accurately.
What if the insurance estimate is lower than the actual repair cost?
This is common. Initial estimates are often done on a dirty vehicle without specialized lighting and typically capture only 40 to 60 percent of actual damage. We are experienced in supplementing insurance estimates and can communicate directly with your adjuster, provide additional documentation, and negotiate the additional funding needed to restore your vehicle completely to pre-storm condition.
How long does hail repair take?
Light to moderate hail damage typically takes one to three business days. Severe damage involving many panels, cracked paint, or panel replacement can take one to three weeks. We give you a realistic timeline at your inspection and keep you updated throughout the process. Because hail repair is our specialty rather than a secondary service, we are typically faster than general collision shops for hail jobs.
Can I get PPF installed after hail repair to protect against future storms?
Absolutely, and we recommend it. After a hail repair, your paint is restored to like-new condition. PPF applied immediately after repair provides a physical barrier against future hail strikes and rock chip damage. Many of our hail repair customers combine their repair with a front-end or full-body PPF installation in the same service window to maximize their vehicle’s long-term protection.

Do you service motorcycles, RVs, and other vehicles besides cars?
Yes. We have serviced passenger cars, trucks, SUVs, motorcycles, RVs, and exotic vehicles since the mid-1990s. Motorcycles and RVs are custom projects that require an in-person assessment before quoting. Please bring the vehicle by the shop or call us to discuss your specific needs.
Can I get a consultation before committing to a service?
Yes, and we encourage it. We frequently find that a customer arrives thinking they need one service and, after talking through their driving habits, goals, and budget, determines a different or additional service is actually the better fit. Consultations are always free. Come by the shop at 9901 W. Colfax Ave or call us.
What dealerships do you work with?
We are the preferred vehicle protection installer for several of Denver’s top dealership groups, including the Stevinson Group, the Medved Group, Prestige Porsche, Prestige Audi, and Harley Davidson. Dealerships partner with us because we deliver consistent, high-quality results on luxury and specialty vehicles where the standard for perfection is absolute.
Do you offer a warranty on your work?
Yes. Every service at Extreme Autoworks carries a lifetime workmanship warranty. If an installation defect is ever traceable to our work, we will make it right at no charge. In addition, Supreme Films products carry manufacturer warranties against peeling, bubbling, fading, and delamination for the warranty term of the specific product you select. We provide warranty documentation for every service at completion.
Can I combine multiple services in one appointment?
Yes, and many customers do. Common combinations include PPF plus ceramic coating, window tinting plus interior protection, and hail repair followed immediately by PPF installation. Combining services in a single visit often reduces total vehicle downtime. Let us know what you are considering when you schedule and we will build a realistic timeline and quote for the full scope.
How do I schedule an appointment?
Call us during business hours Tuesday through Saturday, or visit extremeaw.com/quote/ to submit a quote request. For larger services like full-vehicle PPF, multi-layer ceramic coating, and hail repair, we recommend calling directly so we can discuss the scope before scheduling, as these jobs require dedicated installer time and advance planning.
