FAQ
What do I bring to my first class?
You won’t need any equipment for your first free class. Just wear something you can sweat and feel comfortable in and bring some water! We have all the boxing gear you need. If you’ve been boxing before, feel free to bring your own wraps, gloves and mitts.
I'm new to boxing, do you have intro classes?
All classes are beginner friendly. We’ll work with you to teach you everything you need to know, no experience needed! Expect to learn proper punching, body mechanics and movement patterns. We always try our best to pair beginners with a seasoned member who will work with you at your own pace and make sure that you are comfortable at all times.
What is your youth policy?
We welcome youth to join our community! Anyone aged 16 and older can join with parental consent and signature. For those under 16, membership is considered on a case-by-case basis. The primary requirement is that the child demonstrates the maturity and readiness to participate in adult classes effectively and safely. If you’re interested in enrolling a child under 16, please reach out to us directly to discuss their suitability for our programs.
Are you dog friendly?
Absolutely! We welcome well-behaved dogs of any size at Ballard Barbell and Boxing Club. Bring along your furry friend to hang out while you train—they’re part of the community too! 🐾
Do you offer child care?
We don’t offer child care, but you’re welcome to bring your kids along! We have a play area designed to keep them entertained while you work out. However, please note that children remain your responsibility during your visit. Many parents in our community successfully balance their fitness routine while their kids enjoy the space—come see how it works for your family!
What should I expect out of a class?
We do a solid warm up with jump rope and abs. After that, we move to partnered boxing drills and combos designed to help you learn and refine your boxing skills. In these boxing drills, you will catch your partner’s punches with padded mitts - you will not get hit directly. In the last ten minutes of class you’ll do a challenging HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) workout that is different each time and will always challenge you!
How long do I have to attend classes to get into sparring?
It depends on your experience! It typically takes new members 3 months to build the skill and endurance it takes to spar. All sparring requires mouthguards and protective gear, and is done under the watchful eye of our head coach, who will control the environment to keep it safe for everyone.
Do you offer nutritional advice?
Yes! All of our members have access to our nutrition program. We offer a variety of free options to help you get to your goals.
What types of people attend your classes?
We have a great community at the gym. We have college students, past collegiate athletes, parents, people moving their bodies in a group class for the first time and everything else in between!
Do you have parking?
Yes, we do! Our lot can accommodate up to 4 cars, and there’s plenty of street parking available nearby.
