FAQ
How much does data recovery cost?
Hard drive recovery runs five published tiers from $100–$2,000: $100 for a simple data copy from a working drive, $600–$900 for firmware repair, & $1,200–$1,500 plus donor parts for a head swap on a clicking or beeping drive. SSD recovery ranges $200–$1,500. No diagnostic fees, no evaluation fees, no hidden parts surcharges. You get a firm quote after free evaluation before any paid work starts. Every tier is published on our pricing page.
What happens if you can't recover my data?
You pay nothing. Rossmann Repair Group operates on a no-data, no-fee guarantee: if we can't recover usable files from your drive, you owe $0 for the recovery work. No diagnostic fees, no evaluation fees, no attempt charges. You only pay when we return recovered data. The only cost on a failed recovery is return shipping if you want your original media back. We don't count cached thumbnails or system temp files as a successful recovery; we recover the data you sent the drive in for, or you don't pay.
Are your Google reviews real?
Rossmann Repair Group has 4.9 stars across 1,837+ Google reviews, each tied to a real Google account with visible review history. Click any reviewer's name on our Google Business Profile & you can see their other reviews to verify they're a real person. We don't solicit reviews through incentives or use review management services. Many reviews reference specific drive models & failure symptoms because they're from people who actually shipped us a drive. Hundreds of our recoveries are filmed & published on YouTube.
Do you outsource recovery work to other labs?
No. Every drive ships to our lab at 2410 San Antonio Street in Austin, TX, & every recovery is performed there. Single location, no franchises, no subcontracting. The technician who diagnoses your drive is the same person who recovers your data. Some companies list dozens of city addresses that route to a call center. We list one address because we have one lab. Call (512) 212-9111 & you'll reach the shop directly.
Will your technicians look at my personal files?
No. During recovery, technicians work with hex-level disk images, file system structures, & directory trees, not individual files. We verify success by checking file counts, folder structures, & file header signatures to confirm data is structurally intact. We don't open your photos, documents, or videos. A typical 2TB drive contains hundreds of thousands of files; there's no practical reason or time to browse personal content. The verification process is automated & structural.
Can you recover a drive another company said was unrecoverable?
Often, yes. When a previous shop declares a drive unrecoverable, it usually means they lacked the specific tools, the matching donor parts, or the engineering time to finish the job profitably. That's a business decision by the previous lab, not a physics verdict on your data. Local IT shops & retailers don't perform physical recovery; they run software & give up when it fails. We evaluate every second-opinion case with PC-3000 hardware, DeepSpar Disk Imager, & a full donor inventory. No evaluation fee applies.
How long does data recovery take?
Timeline depends on failure type & severity. A simple copy from a functional drive takes 3-5 business days. Firmware repairs run 3-6 weeks. Head swaps & mechanical work take 4-8 weeks because donor sourcing, head matching, & careful imaging all take time to do correctly. A rush fee of $100 moves your case to the front of the queue. We provide status updates during the process.
