Run the numbers as an owner
Owner income is what is left after your costs, and it depends on your prices and how many jobs you book. Put in your own numbers to see a yearly picture before taxes.
This is arithmetic, not a forecast. It cannot tell you whether customers in your area will pay your price. The idea validator helps with that question.
Example numbers. Replace them with your own.

How we built this comparison
Which businesses are included
Service businesses one person can start locally, book by appointment, and grow without a storefront. Each one maps to a BLS occupation. Where BLS has no exact match, the row names the closest occupation and says why it is a loose fit.
Employee median pay
The May 2025 median annual wage from the BLS Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics program. BLS counts wage and salary workers only. It leaves out the self-employed, owners and partners in unincorporated firms, and household workers. Half of employees earned more and half earned less.
Job growth and self-employment
Projected percent change in employment from 2025 to 2035, and the share of 2025 employment that was self-employed, both from BLS Employment Projections. Growth is national. It does not measure demand in your town.
Startup estimates
Hustl planning ranges for the equipment, license or certification fees, and insurance needed to serve a first customer. They assume you already have a reliable vehicle and a phone, and they exclude rent, payroll, and training tuition. Prices vary by region and by new or used equipment.
