How to calculate it

Price = (hours per worker × workers × pay + products + travel + overhead) ÷ (1 − margin ÷ 100 − fee ÷ 100)

A worked example

A four-hour detail for one worker at $25 costs $100 in labor. Add $25 in products, $10 in travel, and $20 in overhead for a $155 job cost. A 25% margin and 3% payment fee give a $215.28 price, with $53.82 left after the entered costs and fee.

Price each detailing package by its work

An exterior wash, interior detail, and paint correction use different amounts of time and product. Define the included tasks before estimating hours. Track actual time by package so a profitable maintenance wash does not hide losses on a longer full detail.

Adjust for vehicle size and condition

A compact car and a large SUV may need different hours even with the same package name. Pet hair, heavy debris, stains, and extra rows of seats can add work. Set clear conditions for additional charges and confirm them with the customer before starting.

Account for mobile and shop expenses

For mobile detailing, include fuel, parking, and paid drive time under travel. Allocate water, power, equipment, insurance, and shop expenses to overhead as appropriate. Use the portion of product consumed per vehicle under supplies, rather than the cost of each full bottle.

Auto detailing pricing questions

How do I price an auto detailing package?
Estimate worker-hours and pay, add products, travel, and allocated overhead, then divide total cost by one minus your margin and payment fee. Adjust the inputs for the vehicle and package. This tool does not use local detailing rates.
How should I price a mobile detailing travel fee?
Enter the cost of fuel, parking, and paid travel time for the appointment. The calculated quote includes that cost. If you list a separate travel charge, check that the combined customer price still covers the same costs and margin.
Can I use it for ceramic coating or paint correction?
Yes, by entering the full preparation and application time, products consumed, and any job-specific overhead. The example describes a generic detail and does not estimate the time or materials for those packages.
